Moving portraits…

From the 6th of December to the 20th of January if you happen to be in Milan, I advise you to take a trip to Forma, the International Photography centre and in particular, take a look at the exhibition “Ritratto e movimento”, that can be literally translated as “A Portrait in movement“. The event has been possible thanks to the effort from Denis Curti, who has managed to create a journey in black and white from the end of ‘800 through Milan and its people. The exhibition brings together in an impressive unity many photographs with various origins, from the historical archive, to personal material by professionals and younger beginners.

Suggestive urban atmospheres are captured in images from the archives of the daily newspaper Corriere della Sera: instant and engaging shots of a black & white Milan that seems so far from us and yet so familiar in these photographs from the chronicles of the newspaper’s historical archive, conserved at the Corriere della Sera Foundation. And finally the ATM archive, a series of historical photographs taken from the end of the nineteenth century through to the early 70s: this archive gives and account of the company and its close relationship with the city, the means of transport used, the personnel working for the company, the city’s quarters and the urban landscape.

In this jump back into the past, you have the opportunity to get to have a peep at the old forms of transport, the different views that can still be recognized with a few changes and the people from a Milan of the past times. Make it an occasion to take part in Milan’s history, a city that really everyone would love to have as a home…
